Q: What year wheels will fit my 1985 Chevy Truck?
What year model Wheels will fit a 1985 Chevy 1/2 ton 4wd Silverado (SWB). Thanks in advance.

A: Pretty much any 15″and up 6 lug, any year. Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, etc.(They -and others- used the same 6 on 5.5 pattern)

Late Chevy(92-current) have a larger offset, so the wheels will be slightly inboard compared to standard 0 offset wheels.

Q: 1985 Chevy truck lights and turn signals question?
I have a 1985 Chevy C20. The brake lights work fine when the headlights are turned off. When I turn on the headlights the tail lights are either very dim or not on at all. Also, with the headlights are off the turn signals will work – however both sides blink no matter whether the right or left turn signal is chosen. When the headlights are on, the turn signals will not blink. Thanks for any help in advance.

A: I would first check and make sure that your hazzard button isn’t on,then if your tailights are dim i would check your battery to see if that is fully charged. It does sound like your brake light switch might be bad. That is in there with the turn signal.

Q: How do I install a radio without a radio wiring harness – it is for a 1985 chevy truck?
The truck lacks the wiring that should be connected to the fusebox. Not sure how to run the wires. Anyone know how or know a good site for info?

A: http://www.crutchfield.com/ This is a really good site to find info to help install a radio.Best of luck.

Q: I have a 1985 Chevy Truck. I have power (lights), but when I try to start it, it does nothing at all. ?
I had to replace my battery, as the last one was bad. I tried to jump it, but as soon as I put the + end to + battery, it melted half the post instantly. I have checked for corrosion at starter, but being inexperienced, I have no idea where to go next. Any ideas?

A: If you melted a battery post you have something hooked up wrong. are you sure you hooked positive to positive. Which even if you hooked the cables up wrong it’s unlikely to melt the post like that you probably need to have a mechanic look at it.

Q: 1985 Chevy Truck slave cylinder replacement?
I need to replace the slave cylinder on the clutch assembly and don’t know how. I can’t afford a mechanic. Detailed instructions much appreciated.
The equipment to get the vehicle safely up and accessible is not the issue. As to money management, my husband has suffered three strokes in the last two and a half months and I believe the resources I do have are necessary to conserve and put towards his care and recovery. It is the ONLY vehicle I have and am familiar with basic tools and their usage.

A: If you can get to Auto Zone store they have the answers on a computer

Q: How do you tighten a power steering belt on a 1985 chevy truck?

A: there should be a bracket that holds the lower retaining/adjusting bolt on the bottom of the power steering unit..loosen this and the top bolt slightly, tighten the pwr steer unit, then tighten the bolts

Q: Can i put a 1985 chevy truck grille in a 1980 truck?
Hey i have a 1980 chevy c10 i was wondering can i replace the stock grille with a 1985 chevy c10 grille

A: no 80 model was the last year for that body style, 81 to 87 are the same, except for the parking lamp placement

Q: How do you change a window motor on a 1985 Chevy truck, I’m having problems?

A: Remove the door panel. Then tape the glass securely in the fully up position. Unplug the wires to the motor, and unbolt the regulator. Slide the regulator forward untill the front arm comes out of the channel on the glass, then slide it back to pop the rear arm out. There is a 3rd arm that attaches to a channel in the door towards the rear. Pull out the regulator with the motor intact. CAREFULLY remove the spring from the regulator with a GOOD pair of locking pliers. Drill out the rivets holding the motor to the regulator, remembering the position of the motor. New or reman. motors usually come with small bolts that replace the rivets, and you will be wise to use Lok-tite on the threads. Reinstall the reg. into the door, making sure to get both rollers in the glass channel, and the third arm into that channel. Plug in the motor and make sure it works before re-installing the panel.

Q: 1985 chevy truck headlight adjustment?
What’s the procedure for adjusting the headlights on my 1985 Chevy pickup? The truck has a quad-headlight setup which, I’m assuming, was standard from the factory. Thanks.

A: There are 2 adjustment screws per headlight. Find the holes through the trim, the screws could have either phillips or torx head. If they are torx, they may be T-15’s, if phillips, then you need at least a #2. For aiming them, find a level area that has a wall or garage door. Park your truck 25 feet from the wall, turn lights on and adjust till centers of the beams hit the wall about 2 to 2 1/2 feet above the bottom. After that, go on test drive, see how that works, if you’re not satisfied, go back to the wall and re-adjust them.

Q: what seat(’s) should i chose for my 1985 chevy truck?
I’ve been deciding for ever and i still have no clue if i want two stylish bucket seats or to keep the bench seat??? what would you chose please help

A: If you are sure you will never want more than one passenger, then buckets are OK, but if you want to carry two friends along, a bench works best. You can buy a split bench with a center arm rest that folds down and looks like buckets, but keeps the option for the third seat available.

Q: What can I do to stop the loose steering in my 1985 Chevy Truck?

A: need more detail…have you checked anything yet?…do you have tilt steering wheel? is it 2 or 4 wheel drive? have you checked any of the steering linkage’s for excessive play? is it power steering or standard?…what series truck [ 10,20,30]?? …have you checked the steering gear box hold down bolt,s to be sure they’re tight?. have you checked the universal joint in the lower steering column?..check a few of these thing,s or come back with more information so that we can give you a more accurate diagnosis.

Q: 1985 chevy truck wont start?
i have a 1985 chevy truck 305 went to the store and came out an it wouldn’t start ive changed fuel pump ,distributor cap ,cylinder ,coil pack ,top an bottom timing gears and chain, battery turns over but wont start
changed coil pick an module an had starter tested
a friend sprayed starter fluid in the carb and didnt start either

A: I had one do that . one day the ECM said SC7^W it and quit. your 85 may be OBD1. if it is then go to the port. there are 2 open pins side by side on GM OBD1. there made for a jumper. take a small piece of wire bend it into a u shape and insert it into those 2 ports. now you’ve just made a $20 dollar jumper. have the key turned on and watch the check engine light. it will flash several times so you have to be on your “A” game with pencil in hand. it will go like this. 1………… 1.. 1.1……123. it will do that 3 times then start all over until you remove the jumper . the first 1(represents flash) means , hello im a GM model with computer and im OKAY. the next one is tricky because you have to add the flashes in order. like morris code (remember I use the #1 to reflect a flash) 1…(pause)….1..(short pause) then real quick11… that equals 12 . the first set only flashed once so it was a one. after that it flashed once to say one then flash+flash to signify the number 12 the last set you dont need to worry about. it told you the last time it checked itself out it registered this problem #12. any shop can tell you what a 12 is.this sounds complicated but it is not. you will see the flash then flash flash…flash flash flash and know its a 1 ,hello computer is okay, flash flash =2 then flash flash flash =3 its 23 . now its going to do this for every code it sees so you need a pencil or some one to write it down for you as you call it out. now if its not obd i just waisted allot of typing and confused the hell out of you for no good reason. how ever,I hope it is obd and i hope you can figure it out and find your problem.
