Q: 1996 chevy impala SS.?
ok i am looking for a 1996 impala SS.im my research i have seen that the SS is a 5.7 liter V8 LTI engine. but when i see these some have the corvette simble by the front tire, but some dont. do u not get the LTI engine. do u get a lower performance one when thats not thier, on it or is it just their on some and not some?? please help. bottom like does that symbol make a difference in the engine.

A: Zach, that emblem was not available from the factory whatsoever. That emblem is simply a very popular ‘add-on’ that people put on since the LT1 came from the Corvette at the time. All the SS Impala’s from ‘94 to ‘96 came with the same LT1 engine.

Back in the late 1990’s, My friends brother helped start the Impala SS club in St. Louis called GRAIL which stands for ‘Greater Regional Area Impala Lovers’. I was always around these cars from the time they started making them. He was one of the 1st to put the ‘crossed flag’ emblem on. He was also one of the 1st to have his factory SS wheels chromed.

FYI, The biggest difference between the 3 years is this: ‘94 and ‘95 had a digital speedometer and a column shifter with a console with cup holders. The ‘96 had an analog speedometer and a shifter in the console. To me the ‘96 is a tad sportier because of it.
I’ve wanted any year SS forever! I just did a front end alignment on my friends moms ‘95 SS.

A: Check the transmission fluid level. Could be the trans oil cooler…it’s part of the radiator. If it is, it’s bad news for the transmission too.

A: Great, great cars. Comfortable, GREAT cruising cars. They’re heavy as hell but since it has a LT1 there are a TON of aftermarket parts out there.

A: One of the more memorable descriptions I’ve heard of it is “A cop car in a tuxedo.” It’s the last of the rear wheel drive Impalas. It has a cult following that keeps the resale value up. Drivetrain is pretty robust, although it may have the Optispark ignition, which is prone to having water collect in it and short it out. I can’t remember what years had that. But even if it does, there’s a fix available for that.

If you want to buy one, make sure it’s in good condition. Even though the drivetrain is fairly durable, it’s still a 10 year old car. And if you get one with a ratty interior, you’ll probably pay more to have it fixed than what you would have spent on getting a cleaner car.

A: You should stop by your local Chevy dealers show room.All Chevy dealers have a locator system for new and used Chevy’s.Tell them what you want and they will run a locator search and find what you need.Best of luck.

hopefully looking to spend no more then 5 grand as i am going to be putting alot of work/parts into it.including but not limited to 26 inch rims,lambo doors,a full 2 foot lift kit so on so forth.

A: Why would you want to ruin a perfectly good car with making it look retarded like a monster truck? I’m sorry but the older impalas are NOT the cars you do this too. This has to be the stupidest fad that has come to light in the past few years. If you want to do it right get some 14″ Daytons, 4 pump set-up and make the car proud. Big wheels = Small deals!!! Everybody i know laughs at these cars when we see them. It looks just plain stupid.

i was thinking of buying a 96 chevy impala, i was wondering wat are the pros and the cons of this car. and what is a good price for this car right now??? if i do decide to buy this car i want to rebuild the engine and twin turbo charge it. would be able to rebuild the engine over maybe like 5 years but still be able to use it as an everyday car??? the TT kit can be installed in 1 day and be able to drive it the next so the TT wont be a problem….

A: good choice dude my mother had 1 about 10 years ago (we traded because she dont drive her cars after 1 year) but she put 49,000 miles on it and never had a problem. the price will never go down because they are rare and they will just increase in value,

A: 5 lug on 4 3/4 circle.

A: 94 & 95 had the digital dash. ‘96 was the only year for the floor shifter and all ‘96 Impala’s had analog gages, so if you’re asking if there was a year that had both, then the answer is no.

A: You can do a search and find the 1/4 mile times for each if you are talking drag race. If road course, the MR-2 would eat the Chevy for lunch, as it was designed for handling vs the Chevy that was designed to be a highway cruiser.

Of course all depends on driver abilities. A bad driver in either car would lose.
